World Communication Day :Clerics urge media to promote peace and unity.

Media practitioners in the country have been enjoined to create a sense of unity of the human family in order to inspire solidarity and efforts aimed at ensuring a more dignified life within the society.

Bishop,Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Most Rev Dr Jude Arogundade made this passionate plea in his address at a service to mark this years World Communication Day held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Akure ,capital of Ondo State.

According to the Bishop at the event ,the 48th edition, it is lamentable that the world suffers from many forms of explosions, poverty, marginalization, religious and ethnic crisis.

He appealed to the media to always use its tools positively in changing the world for good.

The cleric seized the opportunity of the Day to call on the Christians especially in Nigeria to live with themselves in peace and unity all the time.

He explained that his call became necessary because as he put it “a divided house will always lead to chaos”.

Speaking at the ceremony ,the Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko expressed appreciation to the media in the State for what he termed their professionalism and support to his administration.

The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Information,Mr Kayode Akinmade urged journalists not to shy away from the truth.

He appealed to the media to be wary of trouble prone areas in the performance of their duties in order to avoid attack.
BISHOP OBINNA OF OWERRI DIOCESE

In a similar vein ,the Catholic Bishop of Owerri ,Revd Anthony Obinna stressed the need for the media to be patriotic in the performance of their duties rather than using their tools to grow tension in the land.

Bishop Obinna who spoke while addressing newsmen in a chat after service to mark the World Communication Day in Owerri said with the present security challenges facing Nigeria,the media in the country needed to reduce sensationalism in their news dissemination.

“In the present situation in Nigeria,it is my fervent believe that the media should not be too sensational in their news just because they needed to sell their papers and destroy the country”,he posited.
