REACTIONS TRAIL COURT VERDICT ON 37 PDP DEFECTING LAWMAKERS

Politicans of the All Progessives Congress have condemned in its totality last Monday March 31 judgement of an Abuja Federal High Court that ruled that 37 PDP lawmakers who left their party to join the ALL Progressives Congress APC,should vacate their seats at the House because ab initio they were sponsored by the PDP and won election on its platform and their tenure had not expired.
In what was the first reaction on Tuesday April 1. Hon Femi Gbajamiala, the House of Reps Minority Leader and a member from Lagos state said the APC will appeal the judgement at a higher court as “no person can be compelled by law to stay in an association against his or her wishes.”
In a statement issued on his behalf in Abuja by a Mr Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart,a personal research assistant to the Minority leader, House of Reps, he said Justice Adeniyi Ademola’s ruling on the matter negates fundamental rights of association of every citizen that is inalienable. Section 68 of the constitution has been turned on its head and the error of the court is manifest,he added.
In another terse reaction later in the day, the House of Reps Minority whip ,Hon Samson Osagie at a press conference he held in Abuja described the ruling as one in which the judge “turned facts and the law upside down”.
HOn Osagie added that Justice Adeniyi Ademola went beyond thee reliefs sought and delved on opinions and “rethorics before him rather than issues brought before him” He then announced that the APC as party will surelly appeal against the judgement.
