NAFDAC warns herbal medicine practitioners in Nigeria against unethical practices.

By Tunde OLowu.

The National Agency for Foods, Drugs, Administration and Control NAFDAC, has advised herbal medicine practitioners in the country to abide by the ethics guiding their practice.

The advise was given by a Deputy Director of the agency ,Mrs Phebian Malomo Odu while addressing a workshop organized for herbal practitioners in Onitsha, Anambra State.

She said since herbal medicine had been embraced worldwide, there is the need for them to package their end products well in line with international standards so that it could become a massive source of foreign exchange for them.

She reminded them that the era of unfounded believe about the efficacy of any single particular herbal product being able to cure so many sickness which the herbal medicine practitioners propagate through the media was gone, with the sophistication of NAFDAC in terms of equipment to test for fake or substandard medicine.
