Minister suggests educational reform to curb Boko Haram in northern Nigeria.

Minister of State for Defense, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has called for educational reforms in the northern part of Nigeria to curb the Boko Haram insurgency which has brought three states in the north east near close to standstill.

The Minister who made the call while on an official visit to Owerri ,Imo State, stated that the consequences of mass illiteracy in the north and the politics of underdevelopment in the north had contributed to the depth of insurgency of Boko Haram.

He noted that Nigeria could not achieve any greatness if any part of the country was left behind in the nations drive to provide education for the citizens.

Obanikoro expressed surprise that members of Boko Haram sect believed that western education is a sin, adding that such was a wrong ideology caused by illiteracy.

He warned that politicizing the war against insurgency could be counter productive.

The Minister called for military reform in the process where all stakeholders including the military, government officials, public officers will come together to fashion out reforms for a more proactive military.
