An unknown middle aged man was on Wednesday set ablaze by a mob of youths in Akure, capital of Ondo State for alleged kidnapping of a baby.
The act took place at Adegbola area of Akure, the Ondo State capital as the unlucky man who reportedly feigned madness by his attitude was bounced upon by the irate youths who alighted from Ayedun area of Adegbola and immediately started beating him with dangerous weapons they laid their hands on around the scene.
All efforts by some policemen in uniform around the area to intervene to rescue the man fell on deaf ears as the youths insisted that they had confirmed that the man was a kidnapper.
However ,when the irate youths saw a vehicle of the police approaching,in their determination to ensure severe punishment for their victim they hurriedly set fire on him and before help could reach him he had been burnt to death.
The youths subsequently took to their heels in different directions as the police made frantic efforts to effect their arrest for what they termed “taking of laws in their hands.
This incident is seen as one of severe rampant cases of “jungle justice” being meted in recent times by people in parts of the country especially on allegations of kidnappings.
