The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Wednesday continued with its drive to impeach Governor Tanko Al – Makura as 20 out of the legislators passed a motion directing the State Chief Judge ,Suleiman Dikko to set up a seven man probe panel to probe allegations of 16 impeachable offences leveled against the governor.
The directive which was issued by the Speaker of the House of Assembly ,Alhaji Musa Mohammed, PDP representing Nasarawa Central, followed a motion by Hon Godiya Akwashiki from Eggon West and supported by Hon Mohammed Baba Ibaku, PDP ,from Udege Loko Constituency.
Twenty (20) legislators of the House, all PDP members supported the motion unanimously while the four All Progressives Congress APC, legislators rejected the motion.
The panel was given seven days within which to submit its report to the House.
The Nasarawa House of Assembly started moves to impeach Governor Al-Makura last week after a successful impeachment of the Adamawa State Governor ,Murtala Nyako.
Both impeached Governor Nyako and Governor Al Makura are members of the opposition party APC, thereby making the opposition to allege that the impeachment exercises were masterminded by the Presidency and the People’s Democratic Party.
But the PDP in a swift reaction , denied being involved in any way in the dealings of the Houses of Assembly in the States controlled by the party, appealing to party members not to do anything that would unnecessarily hit up the polity.
