Outgoing Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has disclosed that he had a taste of the nature of human beings recently as some of those he looked up to as friends deserted him shortly after he conceded defeat to his rival General Muhammadu Buhari in the  March election held in the country.

Making the disclosure at a thanksgiving and farewell service which was held in his honour at the church of advent in Abuja . Jonathan noted that though he was deserted, his consolation was in his knowledge that certain decisions in life had their cost.

He declared,’ because I knew it was a very costly decision for anyone to take, I was indeed ready to pay for it as I did”
President Jonathan had loudly conceded defeat to Gen Buhari on March 31, a decision which attracted  positive local and foreign  comments ,applause and most importantly doused tension in the country.

“If you take certain decisions, you should know that people close to you will even abandon you at some point. I had opportunity to tell people that if I loose election more of my so-called friends will disappear, and it really happened that way”

Many party faithful and erstwhile loyalists of Jonathan have either crossed over to Buhari’s All Progressives Congress or made harsh statements against Jonathan’s party,PDP or its leaders.

Jonathan then likened his recent experience with his perceived friends to that faced by former South African President Frederik de Klerk  when he decided to abolish minority rule in that country.

Jonathan lamented that  though de Klerk’s marriage to his wife, Marike, also broke down after he took that decision,it was indeed
the magnus carta that made South Africa to still be a global player because If by this time we still have minority rule in South africa, nobody would have been talking about South Africa in the present generation.
