The Federal Government has expressed its commitment to continue to collaborate with traditional rulers in order to achieve peace and security in Nigeria.
President Goodluck Jonathan stated this at the weekend during activities to commemorate the 37th anniversary of Akran of Badagry, Oba Aholu Wheno MenuToyi Jonathan who was represented by the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, was full of praises for the people of the South west for what he termed their high level of tolerance which he noted allows them to cohabit peacefully.
He said other regions of the country had a lot to learn from the Yoruba people who despite their religious plurality still live together peacefully.
The President said the federal government had great respect for the Oba and Badagry in view of the important position the town occupies in the country, such as Badagry being the center of tourism in Nigeria and the host community of ASCON,where public servants are regularly being trained.
Responding to the gathering the Akran of Badagry, thanked the federal government for deeming it fit to build the largest deep sea port within his domain.
The ceremony was witnessed by amongst many other dignitaries, the Minister of State for Defence, Mr Musiliu Obanikoro.
