Politicians and religious leaders in Nigeria have been advised to fear God and ensure peaceful coexistence in the country.

Governor Aliyu Babangida of Niger State gave the advice at a special lecture held in Abuja to mark the period of Ramadan fasting by muslims.

Babangida told his audience at the lecture organized by the Abuja chapter of Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria that the country was endowed with abundant and fantastic natural and human resources.

He added that there was no disputing the fact that the nation Nigeria, was favoured in terms of climate and geographical location when compared with several other nations within the globe, but lamented that these were not been harnessed for her good.

The governor noted that it was high time that the leaders, politicians, religious leaders and entire citizens of the country critically examine themselves in order to find answers to what he termed “our rather unnatural and unfortunate problems”.

Babangida emphasized the need for Nigerians to take sincere steps to ensure the translation of these favourable resources, climate and human capacity into sustainable development of the country.

Earlier in a welcome speech at the lecture, Chaiman of the Abuja chapter of the association, Abdulraheem Balogun pointed out that the lecture was organized to sensitise the public on the need for peace in relation to leadership in the country.
