The Director General, National Sports Commission,NSC, Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye has appealed to technical directors and coaches of Team Nigeria Athletes to ensure that the team is drug free ahead the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.

Hon Elegbeleye made the appeal while addressing an anti-doping session held by the commission for technical directors and coaches in Abuja.

He urged them to sensitize the athletes on the need by them to stay away from the use of any kind of drugs during the games, adding that his call was necessitated by what happened in New Delhi, India in 2010, where some Nigerian athletes tested positive to drugs.

This year, he stressed, the NSC under his leadership has zero tolerance for doping and as such all coaches are being advised to be very careful by monitoring their athletes very well because some of them are aware that they can be caught, but will still want to get involved in the act of doping.

Topics treated at the session included anti-doping rules violation and nutritional supplements management.
