Dylann Roof, Charleston Carolina Church shooting suspect charged to court .



Dylann Roof, the man suspected of shooting dead nine people at an African-American church in Charleston has been charged with nine counts of murder and one weapons possession charge, according to the police.

Roof, 21, who was arrested a day after the shooting more than 200miles from the scene of the killings and was flown back to Charleston in South Carolina is expected to make his first court appearance on Friday.

Mr Roof’s first court hearing is reported to have been set for 14:00 local time (18:00 GMT), but it is likely he will appear via a video feed and not in person.

According to wire media reports,South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley wants Mr Roof to face execution and have the death penalty.

Meanwhile, the city’s mayor has referred to the killing as an “act of pure, pure concentrated evil.”

President Barack Obama, speaking around midday on Thursday, described the event as yet another tragedy caused by guns in society.

One Joey Meek ,an acquaintance of Mr Roof reportedly quoted the 21-year-old had complained that “blacks were taking over the world and that “someone needed to do something about it for the white race”.

In the mean time Charleston officials are said to be planning a prayer vigil for Friday evening.
