The police in Ado-Ekiti has charged to court four persons in connection with the attack on the campaign office of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP,in the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti,Mr Ayodele Fayose.
The four accused,Adedeji Adesokan, Dele Omogun, Awolola Richard and Adeniyi Adedipe were arraigned before a Magistrate court charged with alleged attempted murder,wilful damage, unlawful assembly and firing of gun at Fayose’s campaign office situate at Adebayo road in Ado-Ekiti early this month.
The prosecutor in the case,Mr Osobu did not parade any witness nor tender any evidence in the case against the accused persons.
In his defense , counsel to the accused persons ,Luke Ogundele argued before the court that the matter was not capital in nature and not of a huge gravity hence his clients were entitled to bail under section 118(2) of the criminal code of Ekiti state.
He told the presiding Magistrate that he was making request for bail based on the case involving Asari Dokubo against Federal government as well as Suleiman vs Commissioner of Police in Plateau state .
He noted that the accused persons were not arrested by the police but rather they willing submitted themselves.
Prosecution however opposed bail for the accused persons ,saying that some other accused persons were still at large.
Presiding chief Magistrate , Mr Idowu Ayeniwon granted them bail in the sum of N250,000 each with one of the sureties who must be a public office.
The case has been adjourned to May 9 this year.
